Each 2022 1 oz South Korean Tiger Medal will arrive to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This means that only minor wear and tear may be present upon inspection. Each of these medals was struck in .999 pure silver by KOMSCO, the premier currency manufacturer in South Korea.

The obverse of 2022 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medals features a tiger cub in the Seoraksan mountain. This mountain is located in Seoraksan National Park and is part of the Taebaek mountain range. The tiger is shown with its paws up on a rock as it looks to the left. In the background, we see mountain peaks and a cable car heading toward the summit. Inscriptions on the obverse read Korean Tiger, 2022, 1 oz, Seoraksan.

On the reverse of 2022 1 oz Tiger Silver Medals we find an impression of the Korean peninsula designed with Hangul lettering. This is set against a tiger-skin background, which adds texture and contrast to the design. Other reverse details include the Taegeuk and a latent security feature. Across the border, there are inscriptions reading Republic of Korea, Fine Silver, .999.

In Korean culture, a storyteller will often begin a tale with “When tigers used to smoke,” which is their equivalent of “Once upon a time.” Tigers are important not just to the cultural fabric of Korea, but also to its mythology. Most notably, tigers play a crucial role in the myth of Dangun, which recounts the origin of Korea’s first kingdom, Gojoseon.
